Legal Associate – Office of the General Counsel

About the role

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is seeking a Legal Associate to join its Office of the General Counsel (OGC) in Cairo. The role supports the Banking Operations group, handling the legal aspects of the Bank’s lending and investment activities across a regional hub that covers Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, the West Bank & Gaza, and Iraq.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and support for debt and equity financing transactions.
• Conduct legal research, draft, and negotiate transaction documentation.
• Assist in the preparation of legal opinions and compliance reviews.
• Coordinate with internal teams and external counsel across multiple jurisdictions.
• Monitor and manage project timelines to ensure timely delivery of legal deliverables.

Required profile

• Law degree (post‑graduate qualification preferred) from a leading university.
• 3‑5 years of experience as a lawyer in private practice or an in‑house legal team.
• Demonstrated experience with debt and/or equity transactions.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Willingness to work in the Bank’s regional markets and interest in international development.
