Senior Assistant Manufacturing Operations – Chip Yard

About the role

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a Senior Assistant for Manufacturing Operations to join the chip yard crew. The role supports the Saltwell Chip Mill Manager in handling, storing, and processing wood into chips while maintaining safety and efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Perform chip yard operations including lubrication, housekeeping, inspections, and ground maintenance.
• Operate heavy equipment such as log cranes, chippers, knuckle booms, skid steers and front‑end loaders.
• Install and uninstall water pipes to keep wood piles wet.
• Operate small equipment like clean‑up tractors, trucks, boom trucks and push mowers for yard upkeep.
• Conduct preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and tools.
• Provide guidance to crew members and assist with safety meetings.
• Maintain clean and organized grounds and buildings, including sweeping, mopping and mowing.
• Exert physical effort up to 70 lb and climb stairs exceeding 20 ft as required.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Willingness to cross‑train on various mill equipment.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and apply safety rules.
• Capability to perform basic calculations and communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
• Active participation in safety programs.
