Senior Assistant Manufacturing Operations

About the role

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a Senior Assistant for Manufacturing Operations to join the chip yard crew. The role supports the Saltwell Chip Mill Manager and Shift Leader in safe, efficient handling, storage, and processing of wood chips.

Key responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment such as log cranes, chipper, knuckle boom, skid steer, and front‑end loaders.
• Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and tools.
• Install and uninstall water pipes to keep wood piles wet.
• Operate small equipment (clean‑up tractors, trucks, boom truck, push mower) for yard upkeep.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including sweeping, mopping, and mowing.
• Provide guidance to crew members and assist maintenance personnel when needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and safety guidelines.
• Physical ability to exert 10‑70 lb of force and climb stairs over 20 ft.
• Willingness to cross‑train on various mill equipment.
• Basic computer proficiency and basic calculation skills.
