Senior Legal Counsel

About the role

Hikma is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to lead its legal function across Egypt and the wider MENA region. The role involves providing comprehensive legal support, ensuring compliance with local regulations, and safeguarding the company’s interests in a fast‑moving pharmaceutical environment.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts with internal and external parties, ensuring completeness and compliance with the MENA legal framework.
• Provide legal opinions on all matters affecting operations in Egypt, and develop or update legal policies and SOPs.
• Manage corporate governance tasks, including drafting resolutions, liaising with authorities, and maintaining the legal status of all Hikma entities.
• Oversee litigation matters, coordinate with external law firms, and represent Hikma before courts and regulatory bodies.
• Monitor intellectual property issues, advise on regulatory matters, and support internal departments to protect the company’s rights.
• Maintain robust physical and electronic filing systems and supervise contract administration.
• Lead internal investigations, assist in M&A projects, conduct due‑diligence, and contribute to budget preparation and monitoring.
• Supervise and mentor junior legal staff, ensuring adherence to policies, processes, and standards.

Required profile

• Law degree (English section required; French section a plus) and a valid license to practice law; an MA in law is advantageous.
• Minimum 9 years of relevant experience in a top law firm or in‑house legal department.
• Fluency in Arabic and English; French is a plus.
• Proven experience drafting and negotiating complex agreements.
• Detail‑oriented, resourceful, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong intercultural communication and problem‑solving abilities.
• Experience in the pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
