Material Handling Engineer

About the role

As a member of the Supply Chain team at GM, the Material Handling Engineer leads the operations responsible for receiving, unboxing, put‑away and distribution of material to meet daily production targets safely and cost‑effectively. The role is onsite, reporting directly to the GM office.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with GM safety, environmental and ISO standards through regular tours and audits.
• Drive operator engagement to meet Business Plan Deployment targets in safety, quality, cost and responsiveness using GMS tools.
• Lead daily operations meetings, review area scorecards and act on performance deviations.
• Collaborate with production floor, material flow, and packaging engineering teams to optimize equipment layout, packaging, and lean processes.
• Audit material records, analyze variances and work with committees to resolve shortages or excesses.
• Support continuous‑improvement workshops, engineering change programs and the Plan for Every Part.
• Represent the department in cross‑functional committees and ensure effective use of escalation tools (NCRs, ESC, TPM, maintenance work orders).

Required profile

• Engineering Bachelor’s degree.
• 4–5 years of experience in material handling, supply chain or industrial engineering.
• Strong communication, cross‑functional collaboration and problem‑solving abilities.

Required skills

• Experience with Global Manufacturing System (GMS) tools.
• Knowledge of Lean Material Strategy methodologies.
• Familiarity with ISO standards and internal control procedures.
