Operational Accounting Assistant Analyst

About the role

The Operational Accounting Assistant Analyst supports month‑end close, inventory management and financial reporting for a global consumer goods organization. The role ensures accurate inventory balances, compliance with internal controls and timely communication of variances to management.

Key responsibilities

• Execute month‑end close agenda, including physical inventory counts across all locations.
• Collaborate with plant controllers to resolve count issues and ensure compliance with company policies.
• Analyze count results, justify differences, obtain management approval and post adjustments in SAP.
• Perform detailed balance‑sheet reviews for inventory, aging analysis and cost‑of‑goods calculations.
• Prepare inventory reserve analyses for finished goods, raw materials and spare parts, secure approvals and record in SAP.
• Monitor inventory in transit, investigate abnormal activities and reconcile unit prices with cost of goods sold.
• Update auxiliary reports, ensure GL balances reconcile, and prevent negative stock at month‑end.
• Track breakage, damage and expiries; produce monthly inventory decks comparing current, prior month and prior year data.
• Manage write‑off processes, prepare analyses and obtain required approvals.
• Support audit activities, enforce COSO controls, conduct surprise warehouse counts and manage KPMG supply‑chain requirements.

Required profile

• Finance or Economics degree from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting, inventory control or financial reporting.
• Strong understanding of month‑end close processes and inventory valuation.
• Experience working with cross‑functional teams and presenting findings to senior management.
