Assistant Accountant – Accounts Payable & Payroll

About the role

Ocius Technology, an Australian developer of uncrewed surface vehicles, is looking for an Assistant Accountant to support its growing finance function. The role will focus on accounts payable and payroll during the first 6‑12 months while also providing broader accounting assistance as the company scales.

Key responsibilities

• Process supplier invoices, match to purchase orders, and run weekly/monthly payment cycles.
• Maintain vendor relationships, reconcile supplier statements and monitor ageing.
• Assist with end‑to‑end payroll processing, maintain employee records and ensure compliance with awards, taxation and superannuation legislation.
• Support month‑end and year‑end close, prepare balance‑sheet reconciliations, journal entries and general ledger maintenance.
• Assist with external audit requirements, statutory compliance and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Contribute to ad‑hoc finance projects and system optimisation efforts.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• 2–5 years of experience in accounting, accounts payable, payroll or a similar assistant accountant role.
• Understanding of Australian accounting principles and payroll legislation.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
