Regional Medical Officer

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) seeks a Regional Medical Officer to lead occupational health services across its regional offices. Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer and the Director of Staff Health and Welfare, the incumbent will ensure the health and well‑being of staff and eligible dependents through clinical support, insurance oversight, and strategic health planning.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and validate medical examination reports, including Entry on Duty, Periodic Medical Examinations, and driver fitness assessments.
• Manage health insurance claims, long‑term sick‑leave certifications, disability cases, and special medical situations.
• Provide occupational health and safety guidance, ensuring compliance with IOM‑OHU protocols and UN medical standards.
• Conduct independent medical examinations to assess fitness for duty and deployment, especially to hardship locations.
• Offer medico‑administrative advice to HR, regional directors, and external health providers.
• Lead training, supervision, and capacity‑building activities for regional health staff.
• Prepare reports, documentation, and stakeholder engagement materials.

Required profile

• Medical degree with valid license to practice.
• Extensive experience in occupational health, clinical assessment, and case management.
• Familiarity with UN or international agency medical standards and health insurance processes.
• Proven ability to work in multicultural environments and coordinate with senior officials.
