Research Associate Specialist – Weed Science

About the role

This grant‑funded, non‑tenure‑track position supports the weed‑science research program for major crops such as corn, cotton, sorghum, oats, soybean, sesame and wheat. Based at the Dean Lee Research and Extension Center in Alexandria, Louisiana, the role involves both on‑site work at the Dean Lee Research Station and occasional travel to off‑station sites.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in coordinating and executing weed‑science research across multiple crops.
• Perform soil sampling, field scouting, planting, spraying, and harvest of research plots.
• Maintain and operate agricultural equipment including ATVs, tractors, sprayers, trailers and weigh wagons.
• Keep accurate records, manage data entry and support website content for the LSU AgCenter.
• Collaborate with station scientists, extension agents, and agribusiness partners.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in plant sciences, agronomy, horticulture, plant pest management or a related field (master’s preferred).
• Working knowledge of agronomic crop production and willingness to travel for field work.
• Experience with farm equipment operation is preferred but not mandatory.
• Strong computer proficiency, especially with Microsoft Office applications.
