Senior Climate Screening & E&S Safeguards Expert

About the role

NTU International is looking for a senior expert to lead climate screening and environmental & social safeguards for a EU‑funded transport governance project across the ECOWAS region. The role will support ECOWAS institutions in embedding climate resilience, sustainability and social inclusion into regional transport infrastructure planning and implementation.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct climate screening and resilience assessments for transport corridors and infrastructure projects.
• Provide technical advice on environmental and social safeguards in line with EU and international standards.
• Prepare, review and validate ESIA reports, ESMPs, resettlement frameworks and stakeholder engagement plans.
• Integrate climate adaptation, gender equality, disability inclusion and other social safeguards into project design.
• Develop safeguard procedures, methodologies and guidance documents.
• Deliver capacity‑building workshops and technical training for ECOWAS and national partners.
• Support monitoring, reporting and quality assurance of safeguard‑related deliverables.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in environmental sciences, engineering, climate change, sustainability or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in environmental and social safeguards, climate resilience or sustainable infrastructure.
• Proven experience on transport or infrastructure projects in developing countries, preferably Sub‑Saharan Africa.
• Background in international development cooperation and donor‑funded programmes.
