SPERO Employment Skills Coordinator

About the role

The LSU Alexandria SPERO program is seeking an Employment Skills Coordinator to prepare students with intellectual and developmental disabilities for competitive employment. The role combines classroom instruction with on‑site internship supervision, helping students transition from learning to real‑world work.

Key responsibilities

• Teach daily employment‑skills classes covering resume writing, job applications, interview techniques, workplace communication, professionalism and job retention.
• Develop, update and adapt curriculum materials to be engaging and accessible for students with diverse needs.
• Coordinate on‑campus internship placements, match students with suitable opportunities, and provide on‑site supervision and feedback.
• Monitor student progress, maintain records of participation, internship hours and employment outcomes.
• Collaborate with the program director, life‑skills instructor, mentors and internship supervisors to ensure holistic support.
• Represent the SPERO program at job fairs, networking events and community meetings.

Required profile

• Experience teaching or training adults, preferably in a special‑education or vocational setting.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple internship placements.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for working with students, staff and external employers.
• Commitment to fostering independence and employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities.
