Associate Director, Private Equity – Southern & Eastern Mediterranean

About the role

The Associate Director will lead EBRD’s private‑equity activities across the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) region, originating, executing, monitoring and exiting equity and quasi‑equity investments. The role also carries responsibility for the overall performance of the SEMED equity portfolio and may extend to Sub‑Saharan Africa based on experience.

Key responsibilities

• Formulate and implement the equity investment strategy for SEMED in close collaboration with sector, country and support teams.
• Lead deal generation, screening and selection, ensuring alignment with EBRD’s investment criteria.
• Structure, negotiate and execute complex transactions, overseeing legal documentation and due‑diligence processes.
• Manage multi‑disciplinary project teams, allocate resources and monitor progress to meet timelines and quality standards.
• Maintain and expand relationships with counterparties, advisors, co‑investors and portfolio companies while upholding EBRD’s ethical standards.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in private‑equity, investment banking or related finance fields, preferably with a focus on emerging markets.
• Proven track record of sourcing, executing and exiting equity investments.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage cross‑functional teams.
• Excellent analytical and strategic thinking abilities.
• High level of professionalism and adherence to ethical standards.
