Chief Operating Officer – Banking Operations

About the role

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) for HSBC Bank Egypt is responsible for leading end‑to‑end operational management, ensuring a robust control environment, efficient execution and scalable growth. Reporting to the CEO/Head of Banking, the COO partners with Product, Partners, Operations, Risk, Compliance, Finance, Technology, the Global Service Center in Cairo and HR to deliver a safe, well‑controlled, client‑focused franchise.

Key responsibilities

• Translate business strategy into operating plans, KPIs and governance routines; track delivery and remove blockers.
• Lead performance management, pipeline rhythm, resource planning and prioritisation.
• Drive productivity, cost discipline and alignment of investments with client outcomes and risk appetite.
• Own and continuously improve the operating model across front‑to‑back processes, strengthening operational risk, conduct, data quality and issue management.
• Maintain effective governance forums, decision rights and management information for evidence‑based decisions.
• Act as senior point of contact for internal governance and external stakeholders such as regulators and auditors.
• Ensure regulatory readiness, audit preparedness and drive remediation plans to closure.
• Sponsor and govern strategic change initiatives including process digitisation, client onboarding improvements and controls automation.
• Improve client journeys and service performance, monitor metrics and drive cross‑functional fixes.
• Build a high‑performing, inclusive team culture aligned to HSBC values and develop talent and succession plans.
• Oversee operational risk, issues, incidents and control testing outcomes, ensuring compliance with HSBC policies and local regulations.

Required profile

• Senior leadership experience in banking operations and transformation.
• Proven ability to manage complex regulatory environments and stakeholder relationships.
• Strong track record of driving operational excellence, cost discipline and strategic change.
• Excellent governance, risk and control oversight capabilities.
