Lecturer/Associate Professor – AI for Smart Manufacturing

About the role

The German University in Cairo seeks a highly qualified academic to join the Department of Design and Production Engineering. The position, starting September 2026, focuses on AI‑driven prescriptive decision systems for smart manufacturing and can be filled at the rank of Lecturer or Associate Professor.

Key responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses on Industry 4.0, AI in production, and related topics.
• Supervise student projects, theses, and research activities.
• Conduct high‑impact research in causal AI, prescriptive maintenance, digital twins, and cyber‑physical production systems.
• Develop and continuously improve curriculum and teaching materials.
• Participate in departmental service, university committees, and industry partnership initiatives.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Mechatronics, Automation, Industrial AI or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated research track record with publications in reputable international journals.
• Experience in funded or collaborative research projects is an asset.
• Strong communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a commitment to innovative teaching and research.

Required skills

• Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning applied to production systems.
• Causality analysis and predictive maintenance techniques.
• Programming in Python, MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++.
• Robotics middleware (ROS) and PLC/SCADA systems.
• Cloud platforms, edge computing, and cloud‑based Manufacturing Execution Systems.
• Virtual commissioning tools such as Siemens and Dassault solutions.
• Knowledge of digital twins, model‑based engineering, and Industry 4.0 concepts.
