About the role
Kemper, a leading specialized insurer, is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to join its finance team. This remote position supports the company’s tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring accurate filings and optimal tax outcomes for a diverse portfolio of insurance products.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and file state and local tax returns, including premium, municipal, use, property, and other insurance‑related taxes.
- Analyze tax and financial statement implications of business activities and propose strategies to optimize results.
- Create journal entries, perform account reconciliations, and conduct related analyses.
- Coordinate tax payments and interact with tax authorities and external parties.
- Leverage information services to resolve tax, software, and related inquiries.
- Participate in process‑improvement and technology‑implementation projects, sharing expertise with team members.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in an insurance‑company tax function or public‑accounting tax practice.
- Demonstrated experience with premium taxes and related systems.
Required skills
- Premium Pro (or equivalent premium tax system).
- Workday or other cloud‑based ERP environments.
- Alteryx.
- Power BI.
