Charge Up Leading Hand

About the role

The Charge Up Leading Hand leads underground charge‑up activities at Sukari Gold Mine, ensuring safe, compliant and timely blasting that supports production targets. This role oversees explosives handling, charging quality and blast initiation while maintaining strict documentation and accounting.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct pre‑shift briefings, allocate tasks and verify site readiness for the production plan.
• Verify issuance, security, quantity and integrity of explosives; control custody and underground distribution.
• Supervise charging and stemming, ensuring correct product selection, placement, primer/booster installation and tie‑up sequencing.
• Obtain firing authorisations, manage exclusion zones, clear personnel and equipment, and initiate blasts on schedule using approved initiation systems.
• Perform post‑blast inspections, confirm misfire status, re‑entry conditions and capture lessons learned.
• Complete blast reports, maintain explosive accounting records and ensure audit‑ready traceability.
• Enforce HSE controls, lead risk assessments and coach charge‑up operators for safe execution.

Required profile

• High School Certificate or Technical/Vocational Diploma (or equivalent).
• Valid Blasting Licence/Shotfirer Certificate, explosives handling/transport authorisation and site‑required underground explosives permits.
• Minimum 5 years underground mining experience with at least 2 years leading charge‑up activities.
• Proven record of safe, compliant blasting and disciplined documentation.
