Head of Cards Portfolio Management

About the role

The Head of Cards Portfolio Management leads the strategy, performance and risk oversight of a bank's card portfolio. Reporting to senior leadership, this role ensures the portfolio grows sustainably while maintaining high service standards and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Disseminate cards portfolio policies and procedures to drive efficient performance.
• Assist the department head in managing daily activities, operations and resource allocation.
• Define annual KPIs, quarterly work plans and monitor their achievement.
• Lead and coach team members, providing feedback, training and professional development.
• Evaluate staff performance, assign work and advise on complex cases.
• Improve workflow efficiency and ensure smooth operations across the function.
• Coordinate with other bank functions, control areas and regulators to maintain governance.
• Prepare RCSA samples, incident reports and ensure compliance.
• Produce periodic analytical reports and present portfolio performance to senior leadership.
• Set risk appetite, performance targets and drive portfolio growth, customer engagement and retention strategies.
• Lead advanced analysis of card usage, acquisition, attrition and forecast promotional impacts.
• Monitor delinquent segments, loyalty program effects and card suspension trends, implementing mitigation actions.
• Oversee accurate calculation of statement fees and manage spending limits.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in card portfolio management or a related banking function.
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop high‑performing teams.
• Strong analytical mindset and ability to translate data into strategic insights.
• Deep understanding of risk management, regulatory requirements and governance in the financial sector.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with senior management, control functions and external stakeholders.
