Head of Legal

About the role

The Head of Legal acts as in-house legal counsel for Al-Futtaim Group in Egypt, giving advice across corporate, commercial, retail, property, construction and contentious matters, with a strong focus on real estate. The role covers internal and external legal matters and aims to mitigate legal risk.

Key responsibilities

• Property and construction documentation: ensure quality and legal compliance, and provide timely legal support to all business divisions
• Landlord and tenant matters
• Legal advisory: advise on company or branch establishment, licensing, import restrictions, trademarks, franchising, distribution, supply and third-party agreements
• Corporate governance and company secretarial support: incorporations, registrations, licences, Board and shareholder documentation, corporate records and company law compliance
• Risk management: identify and mitigate legal exposure and ensure compliance of Group companies and contracts with the law
• Disputes, litigation and arbitration: develop dispute strategies, negotiate or resolve disputes, represent the Group before courts, authorities and arbitrators and manage external counsel
• Team leadership: supervise the legal team, ensure consistent, high-quality work and timely delivery
• Government liaison: acquire and maintain licences and approvals for Group companies

Required profile

• Degree in Law and professional legal qualification
• Admission to practice as a lawyer/attorney in Egypt
• Minimum 20 years of relevant legal experience across property, corporate and commercial sectors
• Experience supervising legal teams and working with external counsel

• Knowledge of Egyptian legal frameworks for real estate, corporate and regulatory matters
• Contract drafting, review and negotiation
• Litigation, arbitration and dispute management
• Problem-solving and decision-making with strong commercial acumen
