Manager, Banking Legal Services (Intra-African Trade & Asset Finance)

About the role

Afreximbank is recruiting a Manager, Banking Legal Services (Intra-African Trade & Asset Finance) in Cairo, reporting to the Director, Banking Legal Services. The role supports the Legal Department in advancing the Bank's mission of expanding and diversifying African trade, and provides strategic direction for the Bank's legal services delivery strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Provide tailored, commercially focused legal advice on banking and finance matters, special projects and initiatives, and advise on the application of laws and regulations
• Ensure controls mitigate legal risks, support legal processes and standardised documentation, and act as subject-matter expert on loan products
• Advise on borrowings in international capital and money markets, asset and liability management, and equity participations, grants and co-financing with multilateral and bilateral institutions
• Represent the Bank in negotiations, disputes and proceedings, and conduct deal appraisals, legal due diligence and transaction documentation
• Coordinate external legal counsel and serve on internal committees and working groups
• Comply with AML, anti-bribery, conflicts of interest and insider trading policies, report suspicious activity and complete annual compliance training

Required profile

• Postgraduate degree in Law from a recognised university and a Diploma in Legal Practice from a recognised Bar Course
• At least 8 years of professional legal practice, with emphasis on banking and financial services
• Experience with cross-border trade and project finance documentation (structured trade and corporate finance, project and asset-based finance, guarantees, sovereign lending, private equity)
• Good knowledge of banking practices in Africa and ability to communicate with senior officials of banks, corporates and governments
• Excellent English, with French, Arabic or Portuguese an added advantage
