Industrial Fabrication Lab Engineer

About the role

The Industrial Fabrication Lab Engineer will manage the daily operations of the university's Fabrication Lab, ensuring a safe, organized, and efficient environment for students, startups, and research projects.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day lab activities and handle equipment requests.
• Maintain safety protocols and ensure compliance by all lab users.
• Source, order, and manage materials, supplies, and consumables for fabrication projects.
• Troubleshoot, service, and maintain equipment such as laser cutters, 3D printers, CNC machines, and PCB/board‑making tools.
• Provide technical guidance and hands‑on support to users across academic and entrepreneurial initiatives.
• Showcase lab successes through communication initiatives and contribute to revenue generation via lab services and custom fabrication.
• Keep detailed records of client usage, equipment logs, and project documentation; report on utilization and performance.
• Perform additional duties assigned by the Dean, Head of Department, or Programme Director.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• 1–2 years of experience in fabrication, prototyping, or technical workshop management.
• Strong knowledge of materials, design, and fabrication processes.
• Experience working with international staff and in multicultural environments.
• Ability to work under pressure, meet strict deadlines, and produce marketing content.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with laser cutters, 3D printers, CNC machines, and PCB/board‑making equipment.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Rhinoceros 3D, and other CAD/CAM software.
• Operation of milling machines and related fabrication tools.
• Knowledge of workplace safety standards and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Competence in creating marketing visuals using Canva or Photoshop.
