Lead Cost Control Engineer – Utilities

About the role

The Lead Cost Control Engineer will oversee budgeting, cost monitoring and financial forecasting for utility projects. Reporting to senior management, you will ensure accurate profitability analysis and early detection of cost overruns across the company’s portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain project budgets and cost baselines in collaboration with cross‑functional teams.
• Track actual and committed costs, investigate variances and prepare monthly cost reports including budget vs. actual, commitments, accruals and forecast to completion.
• Monitor project revenue, gross margin, profitability and cash‑flow performance.
• Review purchase requisitions, orders and subcontractor payments against approved budgets.
• Allocate direct and indirect costs to appropriate projects and cost centres.
• Identify potential cost overruns, assess financial risks and recommend corrective actions.
• Reconcile cost‑control reports with finance records and support preparation of forecasts, annual budgets, variation orders and commercial evaluations.
• Produce management dashboards on cost performance, profitability and financial risks.
• Lead, coach and develop the Cost Control team while establishing reporting procedures and controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
• 7–9 years of experience in cost control, budgeting and financial analysis, preferably in utilities, O&M or facility management.
• At least 3 years in a supervisory or team‑lead role.
• Strong knowledge of ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with Power BI is an advantage.
