Lead Project Engineer - Primary Engineering

About the role

Lead Project Engineer – Primary Engineering will coordinate all engineering activities for high‑voltage substation projects, ensuring cost‑effective execution in line with contract specifications, quality and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review overall equipment layouts, arrangement drawings, earthing, cable routing, lightning protection and electrical clearances for AIS and GIS substations.
• Perform structure design calculations, including short‑circuit forces, cantilever strength, SCF and sag‑tension for gantry towers and equipment supports.
• Review supplier documentation for transformers, switchgear and other primary equipment and verify compliance with design criteria.
• Coordinate with civil and MEP disciplines, internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver engineering deliverables on time, on quality and on budget.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with at least 12 years of experience in substation projects (33 kV to 400 kV) in the Middle East or Africa.
• Proven experience in preparation of BOQ, equipment arrangement, and verification of structure designs for AIS and GIS substations.
• Strong knowledge of international structure design criteria, load combinations and equipment static and dynamic forces.

Required skills

• Cut‑out drawings, structure design criteria and load combinations.
• Cable routing, lightning protection layouts, electrical clearances.
• Design of AIS and GIS substations, including 33 kV/132 kV/220 kV/400 kV projects.
• SCF and sag‑tension calculations, short‑circuit force analysis, cantilever strength assessment.
• Proficiency with REVIT or AUTOCAD for drafting.
• Coordination with civil and MEP disciplines.
