Migration Health Physician – Cairo

About the role

Under the supervision of the Senior Migration Health Physician, the Migration Health Physician will support daily operations of the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) in Cairo. The role involves delivering high‑quality medical services throughout the migration health assessment process, ensuring client‑centered, timely, and compliant service delivery in line with IOM standards and infection‑prevention protocols.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct migration health assessments for refugees and immigrants destined for Canada and Australia.
• Provide direct medical assistance to migrants accessing IOM services.
• Coordinate medical referrals with hospitals and follow up on treatment progress.
• Support medical services in governmental health facilities when requested.
• Identify and advocate for special health needs of vulnerable groups and liaise with partners.
• Strengthen and monitor quality mechanisms, including protection concerns for children, pregnant women, persons with disabilities and the elderly.
• Undertake health‑needs assessments and maintain monitoring systems for service adequacy and emergency response.
• Highlight psychosocial and protection issues to caseworkers in line with SOPs.
• Monitor pre‑departure medical checks and coordinate procedures for voluntary humanitarian return, including medical escort when needed.
• Conduct health‑promotion activities for migrants and host communities.

Required profile

• University degree in Medicine with at least two years of continuous clinical experience; specialist training in Emergency Medicine, Gynecology, Anesthesiology, Endocrinology or related fields is an advantage.
• Proven experience in community outreach, monitoring and evaluation, and work at entry/exit points; familiarity with Canada and Australia health‑authority empanelment is a plus.
• Fluency in English and Arabic, with proficiency assessed during selection.
• Willingness to travel as required.
