About the role
The City of Dover Police Department is seeking an entry‑level sworn officer to join its team. This full‑time position involves visible law‑enforcement work to preserve peace, protect people and property, and enforce local, state and federal laws.
Key responsibilities
- Exercise authority in accordance with the law, oath of office and police code of ethics.
- Respond promptly to assignments, assist citizens, and record police activity per policy.
- Maintain weapons and equipment in functional condition and report any loss or damage.
- Provide information to the public, counsel juveniles and adults, and make appropriate referrals.
- Prepare for court, testify as required, and take enforcement action including custodial arrests.
- Operate a police motor vehicle safely, performing visual inspections before use.
Required profile
- U.S. citizenship.
- High school diploma or New Hampshire GED.
- Valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Physical and mental abilities to perform essential duties.
- Ability to obtain certification from the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council within six months of appointment.
