Police Officer (Lateral Entry) – Colorado POST Certified

About the role

The Denver Civil Service Commission is seeking experienced law‑enforcement professionals to join the Police Lateral Academy. Candidates will enter a full‑time police officer position, supporting public safety and community protection across the city.

Key responsibilities

• Patrol assigned sectors, building relationships with local businesses, facilities, and residents.
• Respond to emergency and non‑emergency calls, enforce criminal and traffic laws, and make arrests as needed.
• Investigate crimes, accidents, and suspicious activities, producing detailed incident reports.
• Recover stolen property, regulate non‑criminal conduct, and assist in community outreach initiatives.

Required profile

• Current Colorado POST certification (or state equivalent).
• Minimum three (3) years of active law‑enforcement experience, with at least two (2) years of patrol duty.
• Currently employed by a state, county, or municipal police or sheriff’s department, or retired/laid‑off within the past year in good standing.
• Good standing at time of retirement or layoff, if applicable.
