Programme Specialist – Women, Peace, Security & Humanitarian Action

About the role

UN Women is seeking a Programme Specialist to lead the design, planning and implementation of interventions that strengthen women’s participation in peace and security processes and improve gender‑responsive humanitarian action across the Arab States region.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop programme strategies on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) and Humanitarian Action (HA).
• Formulate and submit project proposals, ensuring alignment with donor requirements (Germany, Japan).
• Lead the planning, execution and monitoring of regional programmes, coordinating with the Regional Crisis Response Specialist, HQ Policy Specialist and country offices.
• Facilitate information‑sharing, dialogue and cross‑fertilisation among international, regional and national stakeholders.
• Ensure systematic evidence‑based documentation of women’s participation and dissemination of best practices.
• Collaborate with civil society, multilateral and bilateral donors, and UN Women HQ to achieve programme objectives.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in international relations, peace studies, humanitarian affairs or a related field.
• Proven experience in programme design, implementation and management within the UN system or comparable international organisations.
• Strong knowledge of the UN Women mandate on WPS and gender‑responsive humanitarian action.
• Experience working in fragile or conflict‑affected contexts, particularly in the Arab States.
• Excellent analytical, coordination and reporting skills.
