Purchasing Section Head

About the role

The Purchasing Section Head oversees the full operational purchasing cycle for construction projects, ensuring timely procurement of materials without disrupting site activities.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise processing of all purchase requisitions from construction sites and technical office.
• Oversee sourcing, quotation requests and preparation of commercial comparison sheets.
• Lead financial negotiations with suppliers to secure discounts, volume pricing and favorable payment terms.
• Review, verify and approve final purchase orders for accuracy in quantities, prices and delivery terms.
• Build and maintain a network of reliable local building material suppliers and keep vendor databases up to date.
• Coordinate with Finance to track supplier payments, advances and invoices.
• Monitor logistics and delivery of materials to project sites, resolving delays or quality issues.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Business Administration or related field.
• 7‑10 years of purchasing experience, with 3‑5 years in a supervisory or Section Head role within construction companies.
• In‑depth knowledge of construction material prices, market trends and local vendors.
• Strong leadership, integrity and attention to numerical detail.

Required skills

• Proficiency in ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle for procurement and PO management.
• Advanced MS Excel skills for complex price comparison sheets and data tracking.
