Regional Chief Operating Officer (North Africa)

About the role

The African Development Bank is recruiting a Regional Chief Operating Officer for North Africa, based in Cairo. Reporting to the Director and Global Head of Client Relations, the role leads Client Relations Managers in implementing business plans, client account plans and strategies, manages a team of client relations bankers and is accountable for the overall profit and loss of the branch. It also oversees the operational efficiency and health of the Bank's portfolio across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Lead Client Relations Managers and Associates, supervise them and identify key customers in the region
• Draw up annual strategic and marketing plans for the region and implement them
• Create Account Management Plans for top customers to maximise cross-selling
• Manage risk within the portfolio and coach and develop team members
• Drive regional business development and investment, mobilising resources across the region
• Support regional integration through major infrastructure and development projects and Regional Economic Communities
• Build collaboration with bilateral and multilateral finance and development institutions to increase co-financing and loan syndications
• Develop programmes and advisory services for fragile states and accelerate private sector investment

Required profile

• Postgraduate degree in Business Administration, Banking or Finance, or a recognised postgraduate professional qualification in Banking
• At least 10 years of experience with a leading financial services organisation
• Demonstrated leadership and the ability to organise and manage human resources
• Good knowledge of banking practices in Africa

Required skills

• Familiarity with trade finance products such as syndication, co-financing, club deals, letters of credit, factoring, forfaiting, structured trade finance, carbon financing and project-related financing
• Excellent verbal and written communication in English and French; Arabic and Portuguese are an advantage
• Ability to interact with senior officials of banks, corporates and governments and present to high-level technical audiences
