Staff / Sr. Staff Optics Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Staff / Sr. Staff Optics Engineer to lead the architecture, design, development, and optimization of complex optical systems and components for sensor products. The role provides technical leadership across multiple optics programs and integrates optics with MEMS, mechanical, electronics, and software subsystems.

Key responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design, development, and optimization of optical systems for sensor products.
• Provide technical leadership across optics development programs and technology initiatives.
• Integrate optical subsystems with MEMS, mechanical, electronics, software, and overall sensor system architectures.
• Investigate and resolve complex optical performance, alignment, reliability, and integration challenges.
• Define and review optical requirements, specifications, tolerances, performance budgets, and validation strategies.
• Guide technology selection, feasibility assessments, and innovation initiatives.
• Review and approve optical designs, analyses, test methodologies, and engineering documentation.
• Mentor senior and junior optics engineers and drive technical decision‑making and trade‑offs.
• Collaborate with suppliers, research institutions, and external partners on component selection and qualification.
• Support new technology development, proof‑of‑concept activities, product roadmaps, and IP development.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, Applied Physics, Electronics Engineering or related field; Master’s or PhD is a plus.
• 5+ years of experience in optical system design, development, characterization, and sensor‑related technologies.
• Deep knowledge of optical design principles, imaging systems, photonics, and performance analysis.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and technical leadership abilities.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary product development environments.
• Excellent documentation and English communication skills.
