Void Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Void Engineer to protect personnel, equipment and production continuity by preventing uncontrolled ground subsidence, wall failures or pit‑floor collapses. The role ensures that active mining zones, haul ramps and surface infrastructure remain stable when operating over or near underground cavities.

Key responsibilities

• Void Identification & 3D Mapping – locate and classify underground cavities using drilling data, surveys, historical maps and geophysics, and maintain an auditable 3D Void Register.
• Risk Assessment & Mitigation Design – evaluate void stability beneath active areas and design solutions such as probe‑drilling layouts, controlled backfilling/grouting or strict exclusion zones.
• Monitoring & Early Warning Systems – set up and analyse data from radar, LiDAR, prisms, UAV photogrammetry and crack‑mapping tools; manage Trigger Action Response Plans.
• Operational Integration – collaborate with Short‑Term Planning and Drill & Blast teams to ensure blast vibrations do not breach voids or cause ore dilution.
• Assurance & Compliance – issue regular hazard updates, align with the Ground Control Management Plan and lead investigations of ground failures or near‑misses.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering.
• Eagerness to learn open‑pit operations systems.
• Preferably prior mining experience.
• Basic computer and diagnostic skills.
• Valid driver’s licence and underground driver’s licence or ability to obtain.
• Good written and verbal English skills.
