Back End Engineer

About the role

Octane is seeking a Back End Engineer to design, develop, and maintain the scalable services and APIs that power its products. The role combines strong technical expertise with a focus on reliability, security, and performance as the company continues to grow.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs.
• Build and optimise server‑side applications, databases, and overall system architecture.
• Collaborate with front‑end engineers to ensure seamless client‑server integration.
• Implement secure, efficient solutions that meet business requirements.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve application performance and system reliability.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well‑documented code following industry best practices.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and knowledge sharing.
• Develop and execute testing strategies to ensure quality and stability.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 4–7 years of professional experience in back‑end development.
• Strong problem‑solving, debugging, and analytical abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Node.js, Python, Java, Go, or C#.
• Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Solid understanding of SQL and/or NoSQL databases and data modelling.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
• Knowledge of containerisation and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Version control using Git.
• Understanding of security best practices and scalable system design.
