Cataloging Officer – Libraries & Learning Technologies

About the role

The Cataloging Officer will ensure accurate description and discoverability of the university’s academic resources. Working within the Office of the Dean of Libraries and Learning Technologies, the role blends traditional cataloging with emerging AI‑driven metadata technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Perform copy and original cataloging for physical and digital materials in English, Arabic and other languages.
• Create, enrich, and maintain descriptive, administrative and technical metadata using RDA, MARC 21, LCC and LSCH standards.
• Enter and verify bibliographic data in OCLC WorldCat and the Sierra integrated library system.
• Maintain authority records for names, subjects, uniform titles and series.
• Conduct quality control, correct errors, and update holdings records.
• Participate in metadata events and provide training sessions for library staff.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science or related field (Master’s preferred).
• 7–9 years of experience in metadata and cataloging, including at least two years with digital collections.
• Demonstrated ability to work with international cataloging standards and emerging AI tools.

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of RDA, MARC 21, Library of Congress Classification (LCC) and LSCH.
• Experience with OCLC Connexion and Sierra integrated library systems.
• Proficiency with spreadsheet or database tools.
• Familiarity with BIBFRAME (advantage).
