About the role

The Police Department is seeking a Communications Specialist to handle non‑emergency calls, operate critical law‑enforcement databases, and support field units. This shift‑work position offers a $5,000 sign‑on bonus for new hires.

Key responsibilities

• Screen non‑emergency phone calls, assess situations, and determine appropriate police response.
• Monitor and operate local, state, and national criminal‑justice databases (FCIC, NCIC, DAVID, CJIS).
• Operate law‑enforcement radio equipment and disseminate information to police personnel.
• Monitor security systems and surveillance cameras.
• Assist the public via telephone, providing information and directing requests.
• Coordinate services for police personnel, including towing, public works, traffic control, and animal control.
• Prepare official reports, maintain logs, and document citizen complaints or commendations.
• Handle departmental callouts for critical incidents and manage overtime assignment requests.

Required profile

• Knowledge of city streets and the local area.
• Ability to speak, read, and write English clearly and effectively.
• Strong logical thinking and ability to follow complex oral and written instructions.
• Capability to monitor and disseminate radio communications accurately.

Required skills

• Operation of CJIS, FCIC, NCIC, and DAVID law‑enforcement databases.
• Proficiency with law‑enforcement radio communication equipment.
• Experience monitoring security systems and surveillance camera networks.
