Credit Underwriter Specialist – SME

About the role

The Credit Underwriter Specialist – SME is responsible for evaluating credit applications from small and medium enterprises, ensuring sound credit decisions that balance growth and risk. The role combines financial analysis, risk assessment, and collaboration with cross‑functional teams to support the company’s portfolio objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Review SME credit applications, including financial statements, cash‑flow analysis and bank statements.
• Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients’ financial, operational and managerial aspects.
• Prepare professional credit memos and risk assessment reports with clear, actionable recommendations.
• Assess collateral, coordinate valuation and verification with relevant departments.
• Identify positive and negative risk indicators and escalate concerns according to internal policies.
• Act as a quality checkpoint for credit files before submission for approval.
• Coordinate with Sales, Operations, Risk and Compliance to ensure efficient workflow and meet turnaround times.
• Communicate credit decisions and rationale to stakeholders across functions.
• Perform routine data‑quality checks and support continuous‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics or a related field.
• 1–2 years of hands‑on experience in SME credit analysis or related credit/risk functions.
• Previous experience in a financial institution.
• Strong knowledge of financial analysis, business evaluation and credit risk assessment.
• Excellent report‑writing and credit‑memo preparation skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines efficiently.
