Head of Engineering

About the role

Lead Emergence’s R&D Center of Excellence, building and scaling a multi‑vertical engineering organization that serves the portfolio of B2B software companies. You will own the engineering talent bar, deployment model, and cross‑cutting capabilities across healthcare, automotive and infrastructure verticals.

Key responsibilities

• Build the Center of Excellence from the first hires into a multi‑vertical engineering organization and be accountable for its results across the portfolio.
• Define and enforce a top‑tier engineering quality bar, overseeing hiring, performance, and placement of engineers.
• Lead the forward‑deployment model, deciding which engineers go where, for how long, and what they are accountable for.
• Chair bi‑weekly vertical forums with portfolio technical leaders to calibrate talent, staffing and address unmet needs.
• Set portfolio‑wide engineering standards for software development, testing, delivery and observability.
• Develop cross‑cutting capabilities such as AI agents, data analytics, automation, and platform/infrastructure practices.
• Lead the central Emergence engineering team, providing architecture direction and AI‑driven tooling.

Required profile

• Deep technical background with hands‑on experience designing, building and operating production systems.
• Proven track record of scaling teams, systems and architecture in fast‑growth environments.
• Strong credibility in architecture discussions with senior engineers.
• Experience working directly with CEOs, CTOs and operating partners to translate business needs into engineering solutions.
