Junior Silicon Photonics Design Engineer

About the role

GlobalFoundries is seeking a motivated Junior Silicon Photonics Design Engineer to join its expanding photonics team. This position offers hands‑on experience designing and simulating silicon photonic integrated circuits while working closely with senior engineers and cross‑functional groups.

Key responsibilities

• Support design and simulation of silicon photonic components such as waveguides, modulators, photodetectors, couplers, splitters, and heaters.
• Run optical, electrical, and thermal simulations under senior guidance.
• Assist with PDK usage, design‑rule checks, and layout‑aware simulations.
• Contribute to chip tape‑out activities, data analysis, and laboratory measurements.
• Correlate simulation results with measured data and prepare documentation, reports, and presentations.

Required profile

• BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Applied Physics, or a related discipline.
• 0–2 years of experience or academic work in silicon photonics or integrated optics.
• Basic understanding of optical waveguides and photonic components.
• Familiarity with CMOS fabrication concepts.
• Strong willingness to learn in a fast‑paced environment and good communication skills.
