Lead Back End Engineer (Java - Node.js)

About the role

Cross Border Talents is hiring a Lead Back End Engineer in Cairo to lead an agile software team. You will design, implement and maintain the client's global content API application using modern backend technologies, while providing technical vision, direction and prioritization for the team.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical vision, direction and prioritization for the team, and continuously innovate to make applications faster and more resilient.
• Analyze complex problems, write reports and propose solutions for software, systems and processes.
• Write high-quality code supporting current and future product requirements.
• Research, select, configure and deploy new technologies, and conduct code reviews following the client's coding standards.
• Work with product and engineering teams to deliver product objectives.
• Communicate regularly with team members and stakeholders about vision, market changes, deliverables and timelines, and help the team anticipate and solve challenges.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or a closely related field.
• At least 7 years in a hands-on software role, including 4+ years as a backend engineer on distributed, high-performance, fault-tolerant and highly available systems.
• Strong background in architecting, developing, optimizing and maintaining REST and GraphQL APIs.
• Fluent in Java, Python and Node.js and their frameworks.
• Experience with Agile methodologies and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Required skills

• Extensive experience with ElasticSearch and Kibana.
• Cloud services such as AWS EKS, OpenSearch, Lambda, IAM and RDS.
• DevOps practices including TDD, CI/CD and build/test/release automation.
• Production deployments in cloud-native infrastructure (AWS, GCP).
• Performance tuning and optimization, and experience estimating effort for technical solutions.
