Lecturer in History of Architecture

About the role

The German University in Cairo seeks a full‑time faculty member to join its Architecture and Urban Design Department. The position focuses on teaching and researching the History of Architecture, covering European, International, Islamic, and Egyptian perspectives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses on architectural history, emphasizing cultural, social, and technological influences.
• Integrate archaeological knowledge into teaching, highlighting ancient Egyptian sites and excavation practices.
• Supervise bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. research projects related to architectural history, theory, and preservation.
• Conduct and publish research on historical architecture and heritage conservation, collaborating with archaeologists and historians.
• Contribute to curriculum development to keep content relevant to Egypt and the MENA region.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Architectural History, Archaeology, or a closely related discipline.
• Proven teaching experience at university level, with ability to lead both lectures and seminars.
• Specialised expertise in Islamic and Egyptian architectural history.
• Familiarity with archaeological methods and excavation practices in Egypt.
