Policy & Foreign Affairs Research Intern

About the role

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is seeking a motivated intern to support its Policy & Foreign Affairs research team at the Regional Office for the Arab States in Cairo. The role offers hands‑on experience in policy analysis, stakeholder mapping, and knowledge development within the context of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research on the policy priorities and positions of bilateral and multilateral partners related to disaster risk reduction and climate resilience.
• Develop concise background briefs summarising partners’ strategies, agendas and areas of alignment with UNDRR.
• Map existing and potential actors—including private sector, philanthropy and regional NGOs—and maintain up‑to‑date stakeholder profiles.
• Prepare knowledge notes and briefs on emerging policy trends and partner positions.
• Track developments in foreign policy and donor strategies that influence regional priorities.
• Provide short analytical updates to inform UNDRR’s engagement approach with governments, donors and regional actors.

Required profile

• Current university student or recent graduate in international relations, political science, environmental studies or a related field.
• Strong interest in disaster risk reduction, climate resilience and UN policy frameworks.
• Excellent research, analytical and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
