Primary Design Engineer - High Voltage Substations

About the role

HITACHI ENERGY TECHNOLOGY S.A.E. is looking for a Primary Design Engineer for high-voltage substations in New Cairo, Egypt. The role sits within Project Engineering and/or Construction & Commissioning, which coordinates all engineering activities across disciplines so they are delivered efficiently, cost-effectively and in line with contract specifications, quality standards and safety requirements. The position is full-time and remote.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review structure design calculations and drawings for equipment structures, gantry towers and beams, including SCF and sag-tension calculations.
• Review supplier drawings and approvals for AIS and GIS equipment, transformers, earthing transformers and MV switchgear.
• Prepare and review equipment layouts, earthing, cable routing, lightning protection, electrical clearances, cut-out drawings and civil guides, and prepare BOQs for primary equipment, gantries, cabling and earthing/lightning protection.
• Coordinate project engineering deliverables internally and externally, and with Civil and MEP disciplines.
• Verify structure designs against electrical and mechanical inputs and review structure drawings for interface with HV equipment.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with at least 12 years of experience.
• Around 8-10 years of primary engineering experience in substation projects, preferably in Jordan, Egypt, Africa or the Middle East.
• Knowledge of design calculations for AIS and GIS substations (short-circuit forces, cantilever strength, conductor sizing, cable ampacity, earthing and lightning protection).
• Experience reviewing supplier documents and preparing BOQs.

Required skills

• Structure design criteria and load combinations per international standards.
• Proficiency in verifying structure design against electrical and mechanical inputs and reviewing structure drawings.
• Good drafting skills with Revit or AutoCAD are an added advantage.
