Principal Geotechnical Engineer

About the role

Egis, an international engineering, consulting and construction firm operating in 100 countries, is looking for an experienced Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join its Cairo office. You will act as the technical authority on geotechnical design decisions, driving complex geotechnical scopes across building and infrastructure projects, mentoring a team of engineers and serving as the main geotechnical interface with clients, consultants and specialist contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Write specifications for geotechnical investigations, surveys, geophysical studies and remote sensing, and for earthworks, piling, shoring, retaining structures, ground improvement, slope stabilisation and dewatering.
• Prepare geotechnical interpretative, design and desk study reports, and geotechnical chapters in structural design reports and tender proposals.
• Run bearing capacity, settlement, consolidation and soil-structure interaction analyses, and design shoring walls and foundations across multiple load cases.
• Assess slope stability, seismic and liquefaction risks, interpret CPT data and design ground improvement solutions.
• Review method statements, laboratory programmes and contractor submissions, monitor instrumentation data against trigger levels, and run internal QA/QC and peer reviews.
• Lead and mentor engineers, sign off geotechnical deliverables, and represent the company in client, consultant and contractor meetings and design workshops.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (required); Master's preferred.
• 15+ years of progressive experience in geotechnical design and investigation, including leading teams and managing clients and stakeholders.
• Fluent English and Arabic.

• PLAXIS 2D/3D, Wallap, L-Pile, Slope/W, StoneC, CLiq, CPT-IT, Slide2, Dips, Swedge, Liquefy Pro, AutoCAD, MS Office, QGIS (preferred)
• Expert knowledge of bearing capacity, settlement, consolidation, soil-structure interaction, shoring and foundation design, and CPT interpretation
• Working knowledge of AASHTO, ASTM, IBC and Eurocode 7; ICE accreditation preferred
