Project Manager – Port Rail Connectivity (Civil Infrastructure)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the design and delivery of port‑rail connectivity infrastructure across Africa. The role involves managing complex civil works in congested port environments, coordinating with multiple authorities, and ensuring timely handover of safe, operational rail assets.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee civil works in highly congested port zones, including container yard rail lines, bulk‑loading loops, automated intermodal yards, and dockside tracks.
• Lead construction of large‑scale civil structures such as deep soft‑soil ground improvement, rail bridges, overpasses, and coastal drainage networks.
• Coordinate mainline tie‑in and interlocking points between port rail lines and national rail networks, including engineering and signaling.
• Manage EPC contractors, tracking earthworks, concrete structures, track laying, and ballasting progress.
• Liaise with national railway boards, port authorities, customs, and environmental agencies to secure joint approvals.
• Control commercial schedules and multi‑million‑dollar CAPEX budgets to avoid port congestion.
• Lead as‑built handover, including structural safety certifications, dynamic trial runs, and technical asset transfer to port operators and railway authorities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Maritime Engineering, or Project Management.
• 8–12 years of experience in rail infrastructure construction, with proven delivery of port connectivity rail lines or major intermodal terminal yards.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or Chartered/Professional Engineer status (CEng, PE) preferred.

• Primavera P6 or TILOS for linear project scheduling.
• FIDIC (Silver/Yellow Book) contract administration.
• Heavy axle‑load track bed and rail geometry design for high‑tonnage freight.
• Deep soft‑soil ground improvement techniques.
• Rail bridge and overpass construction expertise.
• Coastal drainage network design.
• Maritime and heavy‑haul engineering knowledge.
• Intermodal logistics flow understanding, including yard configurations and clearance zones for reach‑stackers and RMG cranes.
