Project Manager – Port Rail Connectivity (Civil Infrastructure)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of port‑rail connectivity civil infrastructure projects across Africa. The role involves overseeing complex civil works in congested port environments and ensuring seamless integration with national rail networks.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee civil works in highly congested port zones, including container yard rail lines, bulk‑loading loops, automated intermodal yards and dockside tracks.
• Lead construction of large‑scale civil structures such as deep soft‑soil ground improvement, rail bridges, overpasses and coastal drainage networks.
• Coordinate mainline tie‑in and interlocking engineering, signalling and physical track connections with the national rail network.
• Manage EPC contractors, tracking earthworks, concrete structures, track laying and ballasting progress.
• Liaise with national railway boards, port authorities, customs and environmental agencies to obtain joint approvals.
• Control commercial schedules and multi‑million‑dollar CAPEX budgets to avoid port congestion.
• Lead as‑built handover, safety certifications, dynamic trial runs and technical asset transfer to port operators and railway authorities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Maritime Engineering or Project Management.
• 8–12 years of experience in rail infrastructure construction, with proven delivery of port connectivity rail lines or major intermodal terminals.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or Chartered/Professional Engineer status (CEng, PE) preferred.

Required skills

• Maritime and heavy‑haul engineering knowledge (heavy axle‑load track beds, rail geometries for high‑tonnage freight, coastal construction).
• Understanding of intermodal logistics flows, rail yard configurations and clearance zones for reach‑stackers or RMG cranes.
• Linear project management using Primavera P6 or TILOS.
• Contract administration under FIDIC (Silver/Yellow Book) or equivalent EPC frameworks.
