Project Manager – Port Rail Connectivity (Civil Infrastructure)

About the role

The Project Manager will lead the delivery of complex civil infrastructure that connects ports to national rail networks across Africa. This role requires coordinating multiple stakeholders, managing large EPC contracts, and ensuring timely, safe completion of high‑capacity rail corridors within congested port environments.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee civil works in congested port zones, including container yard rail lines, bulk‑loading loops, intermodal yards, and dockside tracks.
• Lead construction of large‑scale structures such as rail bridges, overpasses, deep soft‑soil ground improvement, and coastal drainage networks.
• Coordinate mainline tie‑in and interlocking points between port lines and national rail networks.
• Manage EPC contractors, tracking earthworks, concrete structures, track laying, and ballasting progress.
• Navigate approvals with railway boards, port authorities, customs, and environmental agencies.
• Control commercial schedules and multi‑million‑dollar CAPEX budgets to avoid port congestion.
• Deliver as‑built handover, safety certifications, trial runs, and technical asset transfer to port operators and railway authorities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Maritime Engineering, or Project Management.
• 8–12 years of experience in rail infrastructure construction, specifically delivering port connectivity or intermodal terminal projects.
• Professional certifications such as PMP, Chartered Engineer (CEng/PE) are highly preferred.

Required skills

• Primavera P6 or TILOS for linear project scheduling.
• Familiarity with FIDIC (Silver/Yellow Book) contract administration.
• Technical knowledge of heavy‑axle‑load track beds, rail geometries for high‑tonnage freight, and civil construction in saline/coastal environments.
