Senior Backend Developer

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Developer to join our engineering team in Erbil. You will design, develop and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that power enterprise‑grade web and mobile applications. The role involves handling complex business logic, system integrations and high‑performance distributed systems while ensuring security and reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain backend services and RESTful APIs.
• Build scalable, secure, high‑performance applications supporting business‑critical operations.
• Design and optimise database schemas, queries and data models for relational and NoSQL stores.
• Implement integrations with third‑party systems, payment gateways and enterprise platforms.
• Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to technical decision‑making.
• Write clean, maintainable, well‑documented code following industry best practices.
• Conduct code reviews and mentor junior developers.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve production issues and performance bottlenecks.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, QA engineers, DevOps teams and business stakeholders.
• Support CI/CD initiatives and improve automation and deployment processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong foundation in computer‑science principles such as data structures, algorithms, concurrency and distributed systems.
• Proven experience developing and maintaining production‑grade backend applications and APIs.
• Advanced proficiency in Java and related frameworks (e.g., Spring, Quarkus).
• Solid understanding of OOP, design patterns and clean architecture.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases, including performance tuning.
• Knowledge of RESTful API design, authentication, authorization and secure coding practices.
• Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Strong problem‑solving, analytical and communication skills.
