Senior Java Backend Engineer - Remote

About the role

InnovationTeam is looking for a highly experienced Senior Backend Engineer to work remotely. The role is central to designing, developing and maintaining scalable and efficient backend systems, working with cross-functional teams on Java Spring Boot, microservices and modern software development practices.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain robust, scalable backend systems with Java Spring Boot
• Develop and deploy microservices-based applications
• Design and optimise relational databases (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra)
• Integrate event streaming platforms such as Kafka for real-time data processing
• Architect backend solutions using proven design patterns and best practices
• Manage services on container orchestration platforms such as OpenShift
• Build and optimise CI/CD pipelines to automate build, test and deployment
• Monitor and optimise system performance in production
• Promote coding standards, review code and mentor junior engineers

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
• At least 10 years of experience in backend development
• Proven experience building and deploying microservices architectures

• Java and Spring Boot
• Docker, Kubernetes or similar orchestration platforms
• Jenkins, GitLab CI or similar for CI/CD
• Relational and NoSQL databases, Apache Kafka or similar
• API design, logging, monitoring and alerting tools such as ELK, Prometheus and Grafana
