Senior Officer, Library Automation Systems

About the role

The Senior Officer, Library Automation Systems leads the exploration, evaluation, and implementation of emerging technologies that enhance library services. Reporting to the Director of Library Automation Systems, the role drives innovative digital solutions, AI‑enabled tools, and improved user experiences through prototyping and collaboration.

Key responsibilities

• Explore, evaluate, and pilot emerging technologies such as AI, automation, immersive and interactive applications to improve library workflows and user engagement.
• Develop proof‑of‑concepts and prototypes, document findings, and provide clear recommendations for technology adoption.
• Maintain and enhance the library website, discovery interfaces, and other digital platforms, ensuring usability, accessibility, and seamless integration of new services.
• Create and maintain small‑scale applications, scripts, dashboards, and integrations that streamline library operations.
• Deliver user guides, technology demonstrations, and workshops to promote digital literacy and effective use of AI‑enabled tools.
• Monitor technology trends, evaluate new products, collaborate with vendors, and prepare recommendations aligned with strategic priorities.
• Provide technical support for library systems and assist with troubleshooting during implementations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, software engineering, artificial intelligence or a related field.
• At least five years of experience in software development, web technologies, AI applications, automation, or digital services.

Required skills

• Programming/scripting: Python, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, SQL.
• API integration: REST APIs.
• Version control: Git, GitHub.
• Workflow automation tools.
• Data visualization and dashboard creation.
• Understanding of accessibility and UX principles.
• Knowledge of library technologies such as OCLC WMS and discovery services.
