Senior PostgreSQL Database Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior PostgreSQL Database Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and ongoing management of enterprise‑grade database platforms that power mission‑critical financial and payment processing systems. The role combines deep technical expertise with a strong focus on security, high availability and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure and maintain PostgreSQL servers across development, staging and production environments.
• Monitor database health, performance and capacity to meet service‑level agreements.
• Design, test and execute backup, point‑in‑time recovery and continuous archiving strategies.
• Analyse slow queries, optimise indexing and tune PostgreSQL parameters for workload efficiency.
• Implement high‑availability solutions using streaming and logical replication, auto‑failover and connection pooling.
• Plan and validate disaster‑recovery failover/failback procedures to meet RTO and RPO targets.
• Enforce security controls aligned with PCI‑DSS, ISO 27001 and related regulations, including encryption, audit logging and data masking.
• Develop automation scripts and integrate database operations into CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure‑as‑code frameworks.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation, runbooks and SOPs; mentor junior DBA team members.

Required profile

• Several years of hands‑on experience managing large‑scale PostgreSQL environments in a financial or payment processing context.
• Demonstrated knowledge of PCI‑DSS, ISO 27001 compliance and related security best practices.
• Proven ability to design and operate high‑availability and disaster‑recovery architectures.
• Experience mentoring junior DBAs and contributing to Agile/DevOps processes.
