Utilities Engineer

About the role
We are seeking a Utilities Engineer to oversee the operation and maintenance of critical utility systems in a high‑volume food processing plant. The role ensures continuous utility supply, drives energy efficiency, and supports plant expansion projects.
Key responsibilities
- Operate and maintain steam boilers, condensate, refrigeration (NH₃, Freon, CO₂), compressed air, chilled water, cooling towers, water and wastewater treatment, and electrical power distribution including DG sets and UPS.
- Monitor and optimise energy, water, steam and fuel consumption; implement energy‑saving initiatives and track utility KPIs.
- Develop and execute preventive maintenance schedules; troubleshoot breakdowns and coordinate with internal teams and external service providers.
- Ensure compliance with safety, food safety (FSSC 22000 / ISO 22000) and environmental regulations; manage statutory requirements for boilers, pressure vessels and refrigeration systems.
- Maintain accurate logs, performance reports and SOPs; support audits and documentation for utilities.
- Assist in installation, commissioning and validation of new utility equipment; contribute to plant expansion and capacity‑enhancement projects.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Utilities or Energy Engineering.
- 3–5 years of experience in utilities operations within food processing or FMCG environments.
- Hands‑on experience with industrial boilers and refrigeration systems.
- Ability to work shifts and collaborate with production, QA and engineering teams.
- Strong problem‑solving, safety awareness and reporting accuracy.
Required skills
- Operation of steam boilers, condensate, ammonia/freon/CO₂ refrigeration, compressed air, chilled water and cooling towers.
- Water and wastewater treatment (raw water, RO, softeners, ETP/STP).
- Electrical power distribution, DG sets and UPS management.
- Energy management and KPI tracking.
- CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System) proficiency.
- Knowledge of LOTO and permit‑to‑work procedures.
- Familiarity with ammonia refrigeration safety (preferred).
