Head of Internal Audit

About the role

The Head of Internal Audit leads the organisation’s internal audit function, providing independent assurance on governance, risk management and internal control effectiveness. This senior position ensures business processes are efficient, compliant and aligned with strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a risk‑based internal audit strategy and annual audit plan aligned with organisational priorities.
• Lead and manage all internal audit activities, including financial, operational and IT audits.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, governance processes and risk‑management frameworks.
• Provide independent assurance and advisory services to senior management.
• Present audit findings, reports and recommendations to executive management.
• Monitor implementation of audit recommendations and corrective actions.
• Identify key business risks and propose practical mitigation measures.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and internal policies.
• Establish and maintain internal audit policies, procedures and methodologies in line with international standards.
• Lead, mentor and develop the internal audit team.
• Coordinate with external auditors, regulators and other assurance providers as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field.
• Professional certification such as CIA, CPA, ACCA or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in internal audit, risk management or related functions, preferably in large organisations.
• Strong expertise in internal audit standards (IIA) and regulatory requirements.
• Proven leadership and team‑management capabilities.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
